satan

H- [X] 2 Thessalonians 3:3 But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one. NASB [V]

E- My Lord is faithful and Disciples [A] can depend on Him for strength and protection from satan! I want to focus on satan [U] and his demons today.

The apostle Peter said under the direction of the Holy Spirit; “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour9a So resist him, firm in your faith,” [1 Peter 5:8-9a NASB] Peter had a lot of experience with satan as Jesus “turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! [Matthew 16:23 NASB] Peter also declined knowing Jesus three times during His trial. We may not want to admit it, but all Disciples have done similar things.

We can claim this promise “9a So resist him, firm in your faith”. In the preceding verses Peter said Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God,… having cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares about you.” [1 Peter 5:6-7 NASB] So the Lord gives us four steps to take to defeat satan:

1. Humble yourself under the hand of God. Be willing to submit to the direction and control of the Holy Spirit.

2. Be firm in your faith. The Disciples in Thessalonica were under heavy persecution and that suffering had drawn them closer to the image of Jesus. Today it is possible to go to church on Sunday and coast the rest of the week. As we prepare for the persecution coming in the US every Disciple needs to be certain their faith is strong.

3. Resist satan. The roaring lion is after Disciples, but he has no power over us unless we give him power by the choices we make.

4. Cast all your anxiety on Him. Anxiety will burn energy and discourage you. But we have an alternative; turn it all over to God by faith trusting Him. “One day at a time sweet Jesus” has been my claim for many years.

A- How are you and I doing in the steps to defeat satan?

R- O God help me to take these four steps seriously every day!

Comfort and Hope

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 nlt | 11-09-13 Today's Bible Scriptu… | Flickr

H- [X] 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17…16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace, 17 comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.  NASB [V]

E- “16b Eternal comfort and good hope by grace”—Paul promised the Disciples [A] in Thessalonica eternal comfort and hope because God the Father and Jesus the Son loved them. They demonstrated that love by the death of Jesus on the cross. He was buried and on the third day was resurrected. Forty days later after appearing to over 500 people He ascended to heaven where He is at the right hand of God as the Disciples Advocate [1 John 2:1-2]. Our eternal comfort and good hope are by the grace of Jesus alone. Disciples can do nothing to merit His comfort and hope.

“17a comfort and strengthen your hearts”—Our human heart [soul] is very weak depending on self, but Gods Marvelous Design of our Body and Soul gives Disciples [Y] certain hope that we can chose to be filled by the Spirit daily, hourly and by the minute. The choice is ours because God through the Holy Spirit is in our souls waiting for our submission in humility. But, pressure to be self-centered is constantly entering our lives because of good or bad circumstances. Persecution is also alive all over the world, but even in the US, Disciples are under increasing pressure to ignore the commands of God.

“17b in every good work and word.”—God strengthens our spirit, soul and body to do His good work in actions and words. A recent survey indicated that about 25% of people in the US now self-identify as “Non-religious”. This number will grow as the Universities and colleges have surrendered to the far left. Now the left is going after the education of our children with race theory and other leftists ideas. Joined with social media, TV, and other internet the US presents a picture of a satan [U] possessed country.

A- The question for each Disciple; do we fervently desire to be Jesus-centered? Are we growing closer to His image each day?

R- O God I plead with You for my life to be Jesus-centered!!

God is just

H- [X] 2 Thessalonians 1:6-9AMP

E- The Disciples [A] in Thessalonica had experienced increasing persecution and were persuaded the great tribulation had come. However, in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 Paul described the rapture of all church age Disciples to heaven as preceding the great tribulation. In 2 Thessalonians Paul is writing about the return of Jesus to earth in great victory at the end of the Tribulation with all the Disciples from heaven.

Relief for Disciples…and to give relief to you who are so distressed and to us as well when the Lord is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in a flame of fire,

The Disciples [A] will have relief at the rapture in heaven for seven years. Then all the resurrected saints on white horses will come down from heaven following Jesus on a white horse in great victory. This is described in Revelation 19:1-14.

Judgment of those rejecting Jesus… 6 For after all it is only just for God to repay with distress those who distress you,…dealing out [full and complete] vengeance to those who do not [seek to] know God and to those who ignore and refuse to obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus [by choosing not to respond to Him]. These people will pay the penalty and endure the punishment of everlasting destruction, banished from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power

All people have the opportunity to be saved and they make a choice to accept or reject Jesus [Romans 1:19-20]. Vv.6,8-9 describe the terrible judgment awaiting those rejecting Jesus. God is just and judgment will be banishment from the presence of Jesus and everlasting destruction in the lake of fire. This judgment is also described in Revelation 20:11-16 for those rejecting Jesus. Revelation 19:20; 20:10 describes the judgment of the beast, false prophet, and satan [U] in the lake of fire where they will be tormented forever and ever! [V] The end times calendar.

A- The choice of accepting or rejecting Jesus is very critical for now and eternity. Following Jesus may result in momentary persecution and suffering but the final relief is worth it.

R- O God may my life reveal the glory of Jesus to someone this week at my expense.

The Lord is faithful!

H- [X 2 Thessalonians 3:3 But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one. NLT

Paul wrote the first letter to the new church at Thessalonica but their persecution grew worse and some believers mistakenly thought they were living in the time of the tribulation. So about 51 AD Paul wrote the second letter to strengthen and encourage the Disciples.[A]

E- As we are in 2021 we cannot foresee what the year brings for Disciples. But the trend is strongly toward more persecution. Therefore v.3 takes on special meaning for us. We will look at three words:

Faithful – One thing we can count on forever. The Lord is faithful. The Bible from Genesis to revelation is full of promises made and kept by the Lord. Over 300 Old Testament prophecies were fulfilled by the birth, crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus. Here is a sample… Born of a virgin,Born in Bethlehem,Betrayed for 30 pieces of silver,u Presented as king on a donkey,v Buried in a rich man’s tomb,Bones not broken,y Seed of Abraham,Son of Isaac,a1 Would bruise Satan on the head,b1 Would be scourged,c1 Beaten beyond recognition.d1 Source

Many promises were made and fulfilled to Israel. We are fortunate to be alive to see the return of the Jews from all over the world resulting in the reforming of Israel on May 14, 1948. Israel has grown into an economic and military powerhouse. Jerusalem was recognized by the U.S. as the capital of Israel. Recently following the leadership of President Trump several Arabic states have signed peace treaties with Israel. As of 12/29/2020 Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Sudan, and Morocco have signed peace and investment agreements with Isreal. Pray that other countries will follow before and after 1/20/2021.

strengthen – The Holy Spirit will strengthen the children of God, the Disciples. “That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner self.” [Ephesians 3:16 and here and for Be filled by the Spirit here]

Protect – The Lord will protect Disciples from satan and his world system either on earth or in heaven. Psalm 19:13, 121:7, 2 Timothy 4:18, 2 Peter 2:9 Jesus was victorious on the cross. We can have joy from Jesus.

A- [X] I am sure that the Lord is faithful and will strengthen and protect me.

R- O God thank you for Your protection from satan and his world system!

Model Prayers #9

Father, Jesus, Holy Spirit—I need more of you, God. I need so much more of you. My soul cries out for you. O Father, Jesus, Holy Spirit—fill me with more of you, God. I need more of you; I pray for so much more of you. Saturate me. [RH Daily Read 2/22/2020]

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you” [Numbers 6:24-25]

Psalm 67: 1 May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine on us. 2 So that Your ways may be known on earth, Your salvation among all nations. A NASB: Three times the word bless is used (Palms 67: 1, 6, 7). According to the Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament, “To bless in the OT means ‘to endue with power for success, prosperity, ability to reproduce, longevity, etc.’ ” Prayers of Paul NASB:

Philippians 1:3-6…I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all, in view of your participation in the gospel from the first day until now. For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.

2 Thessalonians 1:11-12...11 To this end also we pray for you always, that our God will count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power, 12 so that the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 1:15-23...15 For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you and your love for all the saints, 16 do not cease giving thanks for you, while making mention of you in my prayers; 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might 20 which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 22 And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

Ephesians 3:14-21...14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God. 20 Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, 21 to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.

Philippians 1:9-11...And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, 10 so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ; 11 having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

Colossians 1:9-12…For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.

Henry Luke 12/27/2017 revised 12/1/2020

God’s work in Jesus is greater than our sin

2 Corinthians 5:21 “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

The scripture above promises sinners the opportunity to exchange their sin for God’s righteousness through the sacrifice of Jesus. It is sobering to think about how deadly and destructive sin is and how seductive Satan is. The consequence of sin is death, but Satan lies to keep people from believing in Jesus and disciples from trusting Jesus. A Sin kills the soul, separates us from God, destroys relationships, disrupts families, and warps society and culture. Consider these statements about His wrath from the New Testament written by the inspiration of God.

Paul said “dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,B

Jesus said “Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels;

Jude spoke of ungodly men “for whom the black darkness has been reserved forever.”  D

Paul said “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness”,  E

Paul said; apart from Jesus Christ we are “children under wrath.” F

Paul saidTherefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience, G

Paul said “And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.” H

This is why the sacrifice of Jesus is so necessary. For as great as our sin problem is, the sacrifice of Jesus is even greater. The good news of Jesus is that God has come to us on a rescue mission. He gave His life as a sacrifice for our sin. The good news is all sinners who repent and believe in Jesus will have their sins forgiven and receive eternal life. I Jesus is the only way to God the Father, J

Disciples have the opportunity and command to share the good news of the gospel of Jesus to the nations beginning in the city where we live. K
