The Pretribulation Rapture.

H- [X] 1 Thessalonians 5:9-10…For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him.

E- J. Dwight Pentecost [Z] said

“A. It can easily be seen that the literal method of interpretation demands a pretribulation rapture of the church. The literal method of interpretation, consistently applied, can lead to no other conclusion than that the church will be raptured before the seventieth week” of Daniel.

B. 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 describes the preparation for and the coming of the Tribulation period described in the seventieth week of Daniel.  V.9 above clearly says that God has not destined believers [A] in the Lord Jesus Christ for the wrath of the tribulation.

Pentecost provides 28 reasons for the pretribulation rapture [A-BB page 193-218] and ends with this statement: “The pretribulation doctrine is not based on these arguments singly, but rather they are considered as cumulative evidence that the church will be delivered by rapture before the inception of Daniels seventieth week.” [Z]

A- The other two possibilities for the timing of the rapture require the church to go through all or half of the tribulation. My understanding is the true church will be raptured before the tribulation.

R- O God send Jesus in the air quickly for His bride!

Worship

1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 (ESV) - 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 ESV - Rejoice always,… | Biblia

H- [X] 1 Thessalonians 5:16-24 [NLT except v.23]…

E- Be Joyful…“16 Always be joyful. “Joy takes the burden out of service.” [V] Joy comes from submitting to the Holy Spirit for guidance and control.

Prayer… “17 Never stop praying.” “This means“constantly recurring and not continuously occurring”” [V]. I am to keep my connection to God open and talk with Him often during the day for praise, confession, thanksgiving, guidance and help. I need to persevere to accomplish this.

Praise…18 Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” It is God’s will that we worship through being thankful even when we are in the midst of deep trouble. I am constantly reminded of John 14:15 “If you love Me, you will keep my commands.” If I don’t obey the hard commands what does that say about my relationship with God? It is not intimate.

The Word of God…”19 Do not stifle the Holy Spirit. 20 Do not scoff at prophecies, 21 but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good.”  V.19 We are not quench or stifle the Holy Spirit, our indwelling connection to God. Tim Lahaye said we quench the Spirit because of fear. Vv.21-22 There are no more prophets since the Apostles wrote the New Testament. Therefore, we need to listen to what the entire Bible says about today and the future.

Godly Living… “22 Stay away from every kind of evil.  23And may the God of peace Himself sanctify you through and through [separate you from profane things, make you pure and wholly consecrated to God]; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved sound and complete [and found] blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah).” [v.23 from Amplified Bible – Lockman] Paul moves from the negative in v.22 to the positive in v.23. Disciples are to grow every day a little closer to the image of Jesus in our words and actions. We will be complete in spirit, soul, and body at the second coming of Jesus when we receive our resurrected bodies. V.24 tells us we can be sure the 2nd coming of Jesus will happen. “24 God will make this happen, for He who calls you is faithful.” [V]

A- This scripture is a call to worship with joy, prayer, praise, the Word of God, and Godly living.

R- O God help me keep an open prayer line with God through Jesus and obey the New Testament commands of Jesus. Not by works but by grace and love.

Help with Joy

Online Ministry — The Rock Church

E- vv.12-13 describe the responsibility of the pastor to teach church members how to be Disciple-makers and care for each other. Unfortunately, most churches over the last 50 years have not produced many Disciple-makers. However, Paul describes some church members who need help from joyful Disciples:

H- [X] 1 Thessalonians 5:14-16 NLT…

The lazy or unruly…  “14a Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy.” Paul’s command was “if anyone isn’t willing to work, he should not eat” [2 Thessalonians 3:10 CSB] In an attempt to reduce poverty the US has reduced the incentive for marriage before having children and are now considering decreasing the incentive again. This is a place for the church to have a role.

The timid or fainthearted… ”14b Encourage those who are timid.” We must tenderly encourage the fainthearted in dealing with the trials of life

The weak…”14c Take tender care of those who are weak.” Paul was apparently referring to those weak in the faith. Many Disciples had left a rules-oriented religions for the freedom of Christianity. They may have needed to learn how to grow closer to the image of Jesus through making the right choices.

14d Be patient with everyone.” The church is made of individuals from the person who may not know they are lost to the Disciple who knows the Bible but is prideful. Only God can give us the patience to help everyone with their need.

Watch your motives… “15 See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people.” Some people may reject or be offended at our help. Our motives must be pure, encouraging, and fortified with the love of Jesus.

Be Joyful… “16 Always be joyful.” Joy, love, peace, and long-suffering cannot be produced unless it comes as we yield to the Holy Spirit and permit Him to control us. The fruit of the Spirit is what sets the Disciple apart to reveal the glory of Jesus to others. Without this fruit we look like frauds. [Ephesians 5:18c; Galatians 5:22-23a].  [V]

A- We need to always be on the lookout for someone who needs help from a Disciple filled by fruit of the Spirit.

R- O God help me submit to the leadership and control of Your Spirit all the time.

My Pastor

H- [X] 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13…12 Dear brothers and sisters, honor those who are your leaders in the Lord’s work. They work hard among you and give you spiritual guidance. [V]

E- Disciples [A] are to honor and respect their pastor and other spiritual leaders. I not sure we comprehend the hours and hard work required for our leaders to serve Jesus. My pastor prepares a sermon for Sunday AM and then preaches it two times. He has prepared another and preaches on Sunday night. This does not include the prayer time seeking the Lords will and guidance and assurance of living a holy life and leadership of staff and church.

We should “3a Show them great respect and wholehearted love because of their work”. The writer of Hebrews gave Disciples this advice; “Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit.” [Hebrews 13:17] God holds the pastor accountable for his life, service and leadership of his staff and volunteers. God does not need any help from me. Instead of causing sorrow, Disciples are to obey God’s word in any disagreements with their leaders; “Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. [Romans 10:19]

We are to “13b live peacefully with each other.” Disciples are directed to live peacefully with others in the church. Only then can Disciples reflect the love and glory of Jesus to others. [A] Dear friends, “never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God”.

A- It is a command that I be supportive of my Pastor. 10 sources of trouble that draw my pastor and all Disciples closer to the image Jesus! The Omnipresent, Omniscient, Omnisapient, and Omnipotent God will hold the pastor and me accountable for our service, life and leadership.

R- O God help me to love and support my pastor.

Living for His Coming

H- [X] 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 NLT…

E- vv.1- 3…Return Unexpectedly For you know quite well that the day of the Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night.  …And there will be no escape.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 describes the return of Jesus in the air for the Disciples [A] both alive and dead. Vv.1-3 tell us the return of Jesus for the Saints [A] will at an unexpected time. There are signs for the coming of the Great Tribulation but not for the rapture. There will be no escape from judgment for those who have rejected Jesus on earth.

Vv.6-8…Be on guard – So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded. But let us who live in the light be clearheaded, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation.

Therefore, Disciples [A] have to be on guard all the time for the rapture. There are video cameras everywhere and we have to be on guard that disobedient actions are not caught and shown on social media. However more importantly, God is Omnipresent and Omniscient and sees all our actions in real time. BE ON GUARD! We are to be clearheaded protected by the armor of faith and love with full confidence in our salvation.

Vv.9-11…Encourage each other – 10 Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when he returns, we can live with him forever. 11 So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.

Disciples are to live in the presence of Jesus forever! What a day that will be when we see Jesus’ face to face. Our imaginations are too finite to visualize the glory and wonder that will be. But what we can do is encourage and build up each other up. Most people need encouragement with a smile, telephone call, or a lunch.

A- Be an encourager as we wait for the rapture with the hope of Jesus.

R- O God help me to encourage everyone where I have an opportunity. Please keep me from being a discourager.

Daily Prayer of Thanksgiving to my Heavenly Father.

  1. I am forgiven and made holy, Heavenly Father, through the sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus. “Thank you” seems far too weak an expression for such a great gift, but it is all I have to offer.
  2. I love You, Jesus, for Your perfect human life, Your willing substitution on the cross of Calvary for my sin, Your joyous victory over death, and the promise of eternal life in Your presence. Please accept my thanks until You return—then living in the new heaven and new earth throughout eternity.
  3. I am most grateful, Holy Spirit, that You have revealed the Father’s will to me for my life. The “peace that passes all understanding” surrounds me and I acknowledge Your indwelling presence. For that peace, Your presence, and Your daily direction in my life, I thank You.
  4. I love Your written Word, God, and embrace its authority in my life with joy. Thank You for inspiring its human authors, for preserving its integrity over the centuries, and for enabling me to hear, understand and hide its treasures in my heart.
  5. I long for Your kingdom to come, Jesus, and praise You for granting me insight into eternal matters, that I might please You in this life. Knowing Your resurrection preceded mine and that someday I will have a body just like Yours gives me assurance and hope for the future. For this confidence, I thank You.
  6. For daily blessings, Almighty God, I thank You. For family and friends, for my church, pastor, and staff, for health and prosperity, for home and comforts, for work and purpose—for these and much more, I give You my thanks and my love.
  7. And we give thanks for the U. S. and the freedoms we have and the peace purchased by men and women fighting for our country since 1776 and for safety provided by police and emergency personal daily.

21 Days of Prayer for Life: Day 4 – A Pro-Life View in Three Easy Steps

1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing. What to Pray For Today:

  1. PRAY THAT THIS ISSUE IS SIMPLIFIED. Abortion is seen as morally complex, but it’s really not. Is the unborn a member of the human family? Pray that voters, friends, and family members are not distracted by side issues that miss the point entirely.
  2. PRAY FOR COURAGE. We all know how hard it can be to speak about this issue when we have the opportunity. Pray that you and your family, and your pro-life friends would have confidence in the truth and act when called upon to do so.
  3. PRAY FOR ACCESS. Pray that pro-life faculty in secular universities will have academic freedom to present a persuasive pro-life case to the age group most at risk for abortion.

What if you found yourself in a conversation about your prolife views. How should you proceed?

  1. Keep the main issue the main issue: Pro-life advocates contend that abortion intentionally kills an innocent human being. This simplifies the entire controversy to just one question: Is the unborn a member of the human family? If so, killing him or her to benefit others is a serious moral wrong.
  2. Use science: The facts of embryology establish that from the earliest stages of development, the unborn are distinct, living, and whole human beings. True, they have yet to grow and mature, but they are whole human beings nonetheless.
  3. Use Philosophy: There is no morally significant difference between the embryo you once were and the adult you are today that justifies killing you at that earlier stage of development. SLED is a helpful reminder of non-essential differences:

Size: You were smaller as an embryo, but does body size determine value? Of course not!

Level of Development: You were less developed as an embryo, but infants are less developed than teenagers physically and mentally. Do we think they have less value? Of course not!

Environment: Where you are has no bearing on what you are. Does an eight inch journey through the birth canal change the essential value of the unborn? Of course not!

Degree of Dependency: You depended on your mother for survival, but does dependence on another human determine value? Of course not!

What to do when tempted or problems come?

No matter the temptations, problems or circumstances:

1. Trust God as a refuge– Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.” A The Psalmist said two things; trust Him all the time and pour out your heart to Him about your trouble or problem. Don’t hold back, but no matter what trust Him.  At 80 years old I can look back on my life and see dozens of times that proved I can trust God. He has never failed me or forsaken me. He is very patient with me, loves me, knows me, knows what is needed in my life to accomplish His goal for me “to become conformed to the image of His Son” B Trusting God can allow us to “rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy.”

2. God will always make a way of escape– “God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.” We may not like the way of escape we have from a temptation or a problem. But, we can trust Him, knowing we will ultimately be with Him in heaven. Trust Him when the problem is a fact that cannot be changed. God told Paul about his thorn “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” G

3. Be thankful and receive the peace of God  JProblems can cause our mind to freeze up with frustration, anger, bitterness, or other manifestations of fear. The antidote is being thankful. The Bible is full of scripture asking us to be thankful including: in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” E We are to give thanks in everything, even the two wrecks I had recently. I was of course not thankful for the wrecks, but I was thankful that no one was injured and the damage to the 5 cars was relatively minor. We can always be thankful for something, maybe starting with His free gift of salvation and the believer’s glorious future in heaven. Also the verse said that it is God’s will for us to be thankful. Therefore, when we are not thankful but fearful, we are being disobedient.

4. Loving God and others never fails– God’s great commandments are “love God and others”! I Loving and glorifying God and others is more satisfying than temporary delights in the things and possessions of the world. Paul gave 16 descriptions of love– 8 negative–“Love is not jealous; love does not brag, is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness,–and 8 positive–Love is patient, love is kind; rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails“; Loving God and others like this will help solve problems and provide an escape from temptations.

Trust in  these promises every morning and we are ready to deal with temptations and problems as they appear during the day. Then follow a systematic approach to decision making or problem solving with God’s help. Identify the real temptation or problem, identify alternate solutions, select the best solution, implement it and constantly review, revise, refocus.  The Problem Solving Cycle.
