Spirit, Helper, Comforter, Counselor, Intercessor, and Advocate

H- X John 14:16-17…16 I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; 17 that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you. NASB

Jesus was telling His disciples about their life after He leaves them. He promises them another Helper. Who does “another” refer to as the other? I believe He is referring to Himself and God the Father. The difference is the Spirit of Jesus resides in each Disciple and gives us access to the Trinity of God.

The different words describing the Spirit, Helper, Comforter, Counselor, Intercessor, and Advocate, describe different support roles for the Spirit. Disciples have a powerful presence living within to provide support no matter what our needs are. God did not make humans robots so He gave Disciples the freedom to accept the help of the Spirit or rely on our own finite knowledge and wisdom. How could we not rely on the infinitely powerful Spirit? He is with us forever. That means 24/7 every day for the rest of our lives.

The world system provides lies, but the Spirit provides truth for our lives. The people in the world who have rejected Jesus have no access to His Spirit. A But, we can know Him because He resides in us.

A- The presence of the Spirit is an incredible Helper, Comforter, Counselor, Intercessor, and Advocate.

R- O God help me to go to Your Spirit constantly for help, guidance, and Your other resources. How are you at accepting the help of the Spirit?
