By Bible study on selected scripture [often only one verse], meditation, listening to the Holy Spirit, application, memorizing scripture & prayer: Adoration /praise, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication/petition/intercession!
Praise motivates the other kinds of prayer & worship.
As I Praise God’s holiness, greatness, goodness, power and love, the more I will recognize:
–my own sin, confess my desperate need for forgiveness & a changed heart;
–the tremendous blessings I have to be thankful for;
–the need to focus on God’s will, not mine in my petitions & intercessions for my self, other people and things.
A– To open my heart to Adoration/praise of God I begin with scripture such as:
Praise God for His creation– In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.A He stretches out the north over empty space and hangs the earth on nothing.B He created the heavens and stretched them out, He spread out the earth and that which comes out of it, He gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk in it.C
Praise God for the Gospel–The gospel, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the ScripturesD Jesus said “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.E God made Jesus Christ who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.F We need a Savior for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,G The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.H God demonstrated His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.HA If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”.I
Praise God for His goodness– A person in Christ is a new creature; the old things passed away; and new things have come.J Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good;K The Lord your God is with you wherever you go.L You are a temple of God and the Spirit of God dwells in you.M But He gives a greater grace.N Those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.O The Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.P
C– Since I tend to commit the same sins again I must not only Confess and repent, but find a way to change my heart so that over time my actions change. To find what I need to confess & repent I compare my actions or omissions to lists in God’s word such as: The Fruit of the Spirit [Galatians 5:22-23a] & etc. Below is an example from this link: The fruit of the Spirit
joy- emotion of great delight from total dependence on Jesus Christ. Jesus set the example “…Because of the joy awaiting Him, He endured the cross, disregarding its shame…” [Hebrews 12:2 NLT] Because I love and trust Jesus “rejoicing with a glorious, inexpressible joy” [1 Peter 1:8 NLT] REVIEW– Have I been filled with this kind of joy no matter what my circumstances are? CONFESS; REPENT [ A Life of glorious Inexpressible Joy! ]
Be thankful whatever the circumstances: Oh give thanks to the LORD, call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples.Q Praise the LORD!
Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His loving kindness is everlasting.R Be filled by the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to GodS; Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and mind through Christ Jesus.T Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.U Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.V Give thanks in everything; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.W
