On April 25, 2016 I had open heart surgery at Mayo hospital Jacksonville, Fl. This was not on my bucket list of things to do. On April 29 I was moved to Brooks Rehab for recovery and on May 14 I came home to continue recovery. While I was in Brooks my wife and sweet friends from FBC moved our furniture to a condo, so I came home to a new place. Thank all of the hundreds who prayed for us during this time.
God was faithful and good to us as we claimed His promises one day at a time. Most days I listened to the song “One day at a time sweet Jesus” by Lee Geenwood. I also played for dozens of dedicated workers who helped me in Mayo and Brooks.
I focused on these four thoughts and scripture while I was recovering from open heart surgery. Henry Luke 5/17/2016
1. Do the will of God
Therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1-2 HCSB
2. Produce much fruit
“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 NASB
“Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit,” Ephesians 5:15-18 NASB
“I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.” John 15:5, 8 NASB
“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” Galatians 2:20 NASB
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; “ Galatians 5:22-23
3. Look forward to a better future on earth and then in heaven
Psalms 37:3 “Trust in the LORD and do good;..,cultivate faithfulness.
4 Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it.
6 He will bring forth your righteousness as the light And your judgment as the noonday.
12 The wicked plots against the righteous And gnashes at him with his teeth. 13 The Lord laughs at him, For He sees his day is coming.”
1 “Do not fret because of evildoers, Be not envious toward wrongdoers.
7 Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes. Cease from anger and forsake wrath; 8 Do not fret; it leads only to evildoing.”
4. They are not mine, but yours! As I prayed for my family, Sunday School Class, FBC church and our country.
