Alexander the great thought he was sovereign but died without a heir just as prophesied by Daniel # 202

Daniel 11:  ³ And a mighty king will arise, and he will rule with great authority and do as he pleases. ⁴ But as soon as he has arisen, his kingdom will be broken up and parceled out toward the four points of the compass, though not to his own descendants, nor according to his authority which he wielded, for his sovereignty will be uprooted and given to others besides them. [written about 530 BC by Daniel]

After consolidating his position as King in Macedonia and Greece, Alexander began his war to conquer the world. The Macedonian army of Alexander crossed the Dardanelle Straits in 334 BC to enter Asia from Europe. His route is shown in the map below.

In the spring of 331 after defeating Egypt, Alexander made a pilgrimage to the great temple and oracle of Amon-Ra, the Egyptian god of the sun. The earlier Egyptian pharaohs were believed to be sons of Amon-Ra and Alexander as new ruler of Egypt wanted the god to acknowledge him as his son. He decided to make the dangerous trip across the desert to visit the oracle at the temple of the god. At the temple, he was welcomed by the priests and spoke to the oracle. The priest told him that he was a son of Zeus Ammon, destined to rule the world, and this confirmed in him belief of his divine origin.  Alexander remained in Egypt until the middle of 331, and then returned to Tyre before facing Darius.

Alexander defeated the Persians (the 2nd great kingdom in Daniel’s prophecy, the 1st was Bablyon–in power during most of Daniel’s life) in 331 BC. He continued to the east toward India.

Alexander tried to go into India but was stopped by his army. They demanded to return home. They returned by a southern route as shown on the map. After reaching Babylon he contracted a high fever which became stronger with each following day to the point that he was unable to move and speak.  The Macedonians were allowed to file past their leader for the last time before he finally succumbed to the illness on June 7, 323 BC in the Macedonian month of Daesius. Alexander the Great, the Macedonian king and the great conqueror of Persian Empire, died at the age of 33 without designating a successor to the Macedonian Empire.

Alexander thought he was sovereign, but was not and his kingdom was divided into four parts as prophesied by Daniel about 200 years before Alexander’s death. This was the end of the 3rd great kingdom prophesied by Daniel. The Roman empire would be next on the scene as the 4th kingdom in the prophecy.

Alexander’s Empire split into four main kingdoms –Seleucus (Asia), Ptolemy (Egypt), Lysimachus (Thrace), and Cassander (Macedonia, including Greece).
