The Gospel
Paul described the gospel: “Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, by which also you are saved, …that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,” [A]

John said believers can be cleansed daily by the blood of the cross: “but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.” [B]

At conversion/salvation the believer may have a small amount of knowledge of the cross, holiness of God and his own sinfulness. However as the believer abides in the word and is filled daily by the Holy Spirit his awareness increases. This is illustrated in the chart above by the increase in the height of the cross as time passes after conversion.

Awareness of God’s holiness

“The Bible teaches that God is a holy God. The idea behind the concept of holiness is “separation.” It comes from a word meaning “to separate or cut off.” God is separate, or cut off, from everything that is sinful and evil-He cannot tolerate sin. To say that God is holy means there is no trace of evil in his character.” [C]

Peter said believers are to be like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior;because it is written, “YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY.”” [D]

Awareness of my sinfulness
Believers still have the free will to sin. John said in 1 John 1 we can be forgiven daily, but if we deny that we have sinned–we lie to others v.6, we lie to self v.8 and we lie to God v.10. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.” [E]

As the believer increases in understanding of his daily need to reherse the gospel in his life, his love for Jesus, obedience, abiding in the word, worship and prayer life will increase. Henry Luke January 19, 2016
Notes: A- 1 Corinthians 15:1-4; B- 1 John 1:7; C- Blue Light Bible; D- 1 Peter 1:15-16; E-“If we confess” and 3 times “If we say” in 1 John 1:6, 8-10
