At the first of my June 7, 2015 post on the Harbinger I included this statement which applies to this post as well:
“Some initial thoughts. America is not Israel or a replacement for Israel. Israel is God’s only covenant nation. However, America was founded on the principles of God. The judgments of Israel are unique to Israel, but similar events may be a warning sign of the need for repentance in America. The fact that events have occurred in the past is no evidence they will be repeated in the same way, same order or same timing.”
The LORD commanded Israel to give the land a sabbath of rest to the LORD every seven years. He also said that all debts would be forgiven or nullified on the last day of that seventh year.
Leviticus 25: 1The LORD then spoke to Moses at Mount Sinai, saying, 2 “Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘When you come into the land which I shall give you, then the land shall have a sabbath to the LORD. 3 Six years you shall sow your field, and six years you shall prune your vineyard and gather in its crop, 4 but during the seventh year the land shall have a sabbath rest, a sabbath to the LORD; you shall not sow your field nor prune your vineyard.
Deuteronomy 15: 1 “At the end of every seven years you shall grant a remission of debts. 2 This is the manner of remission: every creditor shall release what he has loaned to his neighbor; he shall not exact it of his neighbor and his brother, because the LORD’S remission has been proclaimed.
We know that the LORD took these commands seriously. Israel (Ten Northern Tribes) was destroyed by Assyria in 722 BC after being warned to repent in 732 BC. Judea (Two Southern Tribes) were continually warned to repent of their sin and refused, but actually were defiant of God. The Assyrians had been defeated as the middle east dominant power by Babylon. After years of warning Babylon totally destroyed Jerusalem in 586 BC.
We are told in 2 Chronicles 36 that the exile would last 70 years in order for the land to lay fallow until 70 sabbaths of the land were complete. This happened!
2 Chronicles 36: 19 Then they burned the house of God and broke down the wall of Jerusalem, and burned all its fortified buildings with fire and destroyed all its valuable articles.20 Those who had escaped from the sword he carried away to Babylon; and they were servants to him and to his sons until the rule of the kingdom of Persia, 21 to fulfill the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed its sabbaths. All the days of its desolation it kept sabbath until seventy years were complete.
We know this command was for God’s covenant nation Israel and only Israel was commanded to keep the command. However, Jonathan Cahn says page 70-71 of the Shemitah: ” Is it possible that it’s been affecting the course of nations and world history, and that it lies behind some of the most pivotal events of modern times? To answer this, we must distinguish between the observance of the Shemitah and the Shemitah as a prophetic sign. Only Israel was compelled to keep the Shemitah as an observance.
As an observance, the Shemitah applies to one nation. But as a prophetic sign, it may apply to any nation. As an observance, the Shemitah comes regularly, every seventh year. But as a sign, it is not bound to any schedule or regularity. But when it does appear, it will manifest the essence of the Shemitah, its effect and mystery, in the form of a sign.”
Not planting the land in the seventh year and forgiving all debts on the last day of that year could have the impact of decreasing the production of the nation. An equivalent today could be the stock market. Mr. Cahn says “of the 20 greatest point crashes in U. S. stock market history that 17 are linked to the final month of the Isrealite civil calender, Elul, the year of the Shemitah, or its wake.” Page 120
I noted in my June 8, 2015 post that the 1st largest drop in Stock market history occurred on the last day of the Shemitah and Elul on September 29, 2008, the 2nd close by on October 15, 2008 and the 3rd on the last day of the Shemitah and Elul on September 17, 2001.
I have always wondered why so many stock market crashes occurred in September-October? I had not observed that most were in some way related to a specific 7 year cycle.
I believe you will want to read this book. A link follows below.
