Due to the sins of Judah, Bablyon destroyed the Temple in Jerusalem in 586 BC. Most of the inhabitants of Jerusalem and Judah were deported to Babylon 606-586 BC. However after 70 years as prophesied by Jeremiah and Isaiah, King Cyrus allowed the Jews to return to Jerusalem. About 50,000 returned and laid the foundation for rebuilding the Temple. However due to opposition from their enemies and apathy the work stopped. In 520 BC Zechariah was given this prophesy that Zerubbabel would rebuild the Temple. The work was accomplished by 516 BC. Nothing is to difficult for the Lord of hosts!
